Planning a wedding that embodies the vibrant and funky spirit of you and your partner can be an exciting journey into a world of endless possibilities. From the fashion to the music and decorations, your wedding will bring back the nostalgia of bygones for years to come and create a celebration that’s uniquely unforgettable. In this super groovy guide, we’ll delve into the key elements and ideas to help you host a wedding that will keep your friends and family reminiscing on for the rest of their lives.
Invitations & Stationery
Set the tone right from the beginning with invitations that reflect you and your partner. Consider using vibrant colors, bold patterns, and fun typography to begin to create the experience for your guests. Incorporate elements that are meaningful to you. For example, some of my favorite accents are vinyl records, cassette tapes, or disco balls, because I am a nostalgic spirit.
Pictured here, are the invitations from one of my all-time favorite weddings, Mary and Preston. One of their favorite things to do together is to be immersed in nature, as seen by their invitation background. They also value comedy as you can tell by their call for “Free Beer and a Wedding.”
Fashion & Attire
Encourage your guests to embrace your theme by specifying dress codes on the invitations. Consider iconic fashion and make recommendations! This is all a part of the experience you create. Bell-bottoms, A-line dresses, floral patterns, and bold accessories are all great choices to make a fashion statement! Remember… This is your party, so you call the shots! Pictured is our bride Helen with her bridesmaids and junior bridesmaids. Helen and Russell’s wedding was dripping in luxury. They married at the stunning St. Anthony Hotel in San Antonio, TX, and their guests absolutely understood the assignment. Their reception hall looked like New York fashion week and it enhanced everything about the day.
Decor & Venue
Choose the venue that speaks to you! I cannot stress the importance of being comfortable with your venue choice. Venue, catering, photography, and videography the vendors you really want to invest in. Transform your venue into a beautifully decorated space that is inspired by you, your partner and all the things you love. Think neon signs, vintage furniture, disco balls, plants and florals galore! Utilize color palettes and incorporate elements like shag carpets or geometric shapes to add a retro flair. Pictured above is the beautiful couple, Sierra and Shawn. Their wedding was stylish, retro, and FUN. The vibes were immaculate and unmatched.
Music & Entertainment
Curate a playlist of hits that keep the dance floor lively. Incorporate classics and iconic tracks that define the spirit of time. Invest in a live band or a DJ that has a broad range of music to mix! Bring out bangers from the 70’s, 80’s, 90’s and Y2k. Hire a professional who is an expert in PARTYING as well as music. The best type of DJ and or band are the ones that embody the party and all that it calls for. The band pictured above performed covers of songs from ALL GENERES AND ALL DECADES. 10/10 reccomend.
Food and Drinks
Design a menu that reflects the culinary trends of your wedding vibe. Serve retro-inspired cocktails and mocktails and consider including uniquely named appetizers and dishes that you and your spouse love. Display the food creatively to enhance the overall theme. The shrimp and grits bowl pictured above is a classic southern favorite. This romantic New Orleans, inspired wedding was made, when everyone received a bowl of this tasty meal!
In planning your wedding, embracing creativity, personalization, and attention to detail are paramount. Tailoring your wedding to reflect your unique love story, interests, and style ensures a day that is authentically you. From choosing the ideal theme, venue, and decorations to curating a memorable menu and crafting an ambiance through music and entertainment, every aspect should resonate with your vision. The joy and beauty of this journey lie in the ability to infuse your personalities and dreams into the celebration, creating a day that will be etched in your hearts forever. Remember, the perfect wedding is a reflection of the love you share and the wonderful journey that lies ahead as a couple.
